Purpose
Regenerative Building Alliance is a collaborative multi-level effort of Bauhaus Earth and ProjectTogether, aiming to transform the building and construction sector — a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, waste, and natural resource consumption.
In Germany alone, the sector is responsible for about 40 per cent of CO₂ emissions and 55 per cent of waste, as well as contributing to biodiversity loss and exacerbating social inequalities. Addressing these multiple challenges is vital as Europe faces multiple crises, including the energy crisis, housing shortages, and climate change. At the EU level, progressive frameworks like the European Green Deal and New European Bauhaus underscore the need for sustainable, socially inclusive development, but a unified and targeted response across Europe remains essential.
By mobilizing stakeholders and advocating for ambitious policies, this project seeks to catalyse a shift towards a regional, regenerative built environment across Germany and other European countries, contributing to the sector’s resilience, environmental sustainability, and social equity. United by a shared vision, the project consortium works in support of the European Green Deal and advocates for robust, sustainable policies and practices.

Expected outputs
The project’s strategy combines the strengths of alliance-building, co-creation, policy advocacy, and knowledge transfer. Core activities include:
- Development and launch of the Bauwende-Allianz: A foundational network of diverse stakeholders, from policymakers to industry pioneers, who share a commitment to regenerative building. Members can participate at various levels, from active co-creators to supporters, fostering an inclusive community of changemakers dedicated to shared objectives.
- Initiation and support of Collective Action Projects: A series of projects that demonstrate practical solutions for a sustainable and socially just transition in the construction sector. These include model programs to establish regional circular value chains for construction materials and a hackathon refining public procurement processes, among others. Each project is designed to address systemic barriers and provide scalable, real-world examples of regenerative practices.
- Organization of policy lab & launch of policy brief: A policy lab with stakeholders from across Europe, gathering practical insights and best practice to shape policy recommendations for the decarbonization of the building and construction sector. The policy brief will identify levers and actionable steps in support of EU policy goals; results will be translated into a policy brief, co-created by various stakeholders groups.
