Bauhaus Earth, the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) and the Ministry of Science, Research and Culture (MWFK) Brandenburg announce significant investment that will strengthen Potsdam as a global center for scientific innovation and research.2023 has witnessed a surge of violence and human suffering, the ongoing denial of the realities of climate change, and the alarming susceptibility of our societies to the influences of nationalism and simplistic answers to complex societal problems.
With the help of the funds provided, an internationally networked, scientific think tank and experimental design lab is being created to push the global overhaul of the built environment towards regeneration.
The goal is to develop a scientific basis for urgently needed political action, as well as the practical development of innovative approaches for the use of biogenic, regionally-available building materials, for circular value chains in the building sector, and for the transformation of cities into climate-friendly, attractive, and inclusive living spaces

Building revolution at your fingertips: As part of an initial research project with partners from Berlin-Brandenburg, Bauhaus Erde will build a temporary pavilion in the center of Potsdam in summer 2023. This will show what innovative architecture made from 100% regionally available, bio-based building materials and recycled products can look like. The permanent headquarters of Bauhaus Erde will also be built at the same location in the next few years. The five-million-euro grant from the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) and the two-million-euro grant from the Ministry of Science, Research and Culture (MWFK) of the State of Brandenburg give Bauhaus Erde planning security over four budget years and enable it to lay the foundations for a permanent headquarters in Potsdam.
