ReBuilt, or Transformation Pathways Towards a Regenerative Built Environment, is funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV). The event at WUF12 is co-organized by the BMUV.

Panel: Activating regenerative construction value chains

The panel will explore the opportunities, challenges, and risks embedded in the transition to regenerative and localized construction product value chains. In particular, it will focus on the intrinsic carbon storage potential of wood and other plant-based, long-life, locally sourced building materials. At the same time, we will examine practices of sustainable forest management, natural resource extraction, and bio-regional urban development.

The panel discussion will be opened by Jan-Niclas Gesenhues, Parliamentary State Secretary of the BMUV and Member of the German Parliament. Speakers include Nasra Nanda (CEO of Kenya Green Building Society and Member of the Nairobi City County Assembly), Prof. Dr. Edgar Pieterse (Founding Director of the African Centre for Cities), Sonam Choden (Research Coordinator for ReBuilt Bhutan), and Prof. Dr. Philipp Misselwitz (Co-CEO Bauhaus Earth and Chair of International Urbanism and Design at the Technical University Berlin). Dr. Gediminas Lesutis will moderate the panel, Senior Political Economist and Researcher at Bauhaus Earth.
